First of 2 - From a distance.
Spanning 60-feet, Grosvenor Arch is not just a place you can just drive by; it’s a destination in the remoteness of the Grand Staircase Escalante Wilderness. This is a large, spectacular double arch at the end of an isolated ridge of yellowish-white Henrieville sandstone. Unlike most red Navajo Sandstone arches, Grosvenor Arch is not weathered smooth; it is very jagged, textured and rough. It is named to honor Gilbert Hovey Grosvenor (1875-1966), the first president of the National Geographic Society. I took this picture on a cool, cloudless, early December day with a sky of intense blue.
