Just outside Grand Junction, Colorado is the Colorado National Monument. As a tourist attraction the monument gets a lot of publicity, however if you have a four wheel drive and are willing to endure 12 miles of rough road, you’ll find a canyon just behind the monument that few people know exists. Rattlesnake Canyon. Rattlesnake is noted for two things, rattlesnakes and the largest collection of sandstone arches outside of Arches National Park. What makes the arches of Rattlesnake unique is that all of the arches are vertical, weathered from the top down.
