The South San Juan Mountains of southwestern Colorado are gorgeous! If you have a four-wheel drive, the triangle formed by the old mining towns of Lake City, Ouray and Silverton provide some of the best wildflowers, alpine tundra scenery, and mining history Colorado has to offer.
I took this picture of Como Lake in mid July. I was standing on a ridge above California Pass in the morning sun. Como Lake is glaciered, feed only by snow. In the morning sun, the lake is an incredible deep ink blue.
