Firehole

A little west of Rock Springs Wyoming on I-80 is exit 99. Turn south and follow Wyo. State Highway 191 south for about 12.5 miles, then turn west and stop when you hit the river. John Wesley Powell gave the canyon its name because of the fiery coloring of the canyon walls. Naming the canyon Firehole because it’s hot, would have been a better reason. From the Green River, this mid afternoon picture is looking at the “Chimney” of Firehole Canyon.
